We're on "Not On The High Street"

After a fair amount of effort, we've finally launched our storefront on  Click on the link below to take a look.

We're currently exploring a Gents range of products and have prototyped an attache / diplomat bag that has the potential to be a real winner.  Classic 50s style in black or brown, unlined or lined with a range of sueded velour pigskin.

We should be adding these to our overall range in the next few weeks.

The future

We've recently been accepted to join Not On The High Street, the growing online outlet for small companies to sell their products.

Founded in 2006, their ideal is one that that they stick to today: to hunt out the most original items from the best creative small businesses, and bring them together in one place, making it easy for people to browse and buy.

We're really excited about this and can't wait to get our storefront up and running and display our products to lots of potential customers.

Mumford & Sons Stopover Weekend

Lewesian Leathers are putting on 2 displays as part of the Mumford & Sons Stopover festival this weekend.  We're teaming up with Jules from The Silvery and displaying our wares in both the Grange Gardens and Cliffe Precinct.

Come along and see our products in the flesh (excuse the pun!) and have a chat. There'll be a chance to see some of our new products including some of the leather masks we've recently been making.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Onwards and Upwards

Things are moving on quite nicely.  We have a number of our bags in The Bedroom (Capella) on Lewes High Street and have a great window display in Lucy Wilkes' Print Centre on Station Street (also Lewes).

We've refined our range of products and are concentrating on messengers, satchels and totes.  I've also kicked off the first mens folio/diplomat case using a beautiful Zug leather from The Horween tannery in the US.  All of our current range can be seen on our website or on Etsy.

We've also started to look at other, smaller products such as leather 'cuffs', bracelets and keyrings.  Something really for festivals and smaller accessory shops.  Here's an example of one of our hand carved leather cuffs.

Finally, I've dabbled in an old love of mine - mask making.  Haven't made one for a while but was inspired by an extremely clever leather craftsmen I found on Deviantart.  Azmal makes the most amazing leather armour, some of which can be seen on current Samsung advert (chap riding the horse at the front).  So far I've completed a re-creation of an old design (black devil) and created a new design of a red dragon mask (see below).

Our first Blog!

We've been up and running for 4 months now and have come a long way since we came up with the idea of turning a hobby/passion into a viable business.  We've spent a lot of time finding the best UK suppliers for our leather and fittings and have settled on one or two that provide a wide range of products with a consistent level of quality.

After a considerable amount of designing, re-designing and prototyping, we've come up with an initial range of leather products which we'll be producing in our workshop in Lewes and selling via various online outlets including our own website.

Our Ladies range will include large and small tote bags, small ladies shoulder bags, hip bags and clutch bags.  We will be producing these in various colours including Raspberry Pink, cream Nubuck and Lime Green.  There will also be the option to have some of these lined with pigskin leather.

For our Gents range, we'll be making fashionable and practical large and small Messenger bags, folios and briefcases.  For these we'll be using more 'rugged' looking leathers in various shades of brown, dark reds and black.

There will also be a unisex range of products which will include Ipad, laptop and tablet covers/sleeves and phone cases.  The leathers and colours will compliment the ladies and gents range of products.

Here are a few examples of what we will be producing:

Large Messenger

Large Black Satchel

Keep a lookout for our products which will be appearing on our own website and Etsy.  As we progress, we'll be selling our products through more online and local retailers. Watch this space!
